Does any one have a reputable source for reasonably priced true GI surplus 50 cal ammo cans, grade 2 or better? I have worked my way through a pallet load that I bought many years ago and want to pickup more. I've done an internet search but I don't recognize any of those that pop up. Has anyone had first hand experience recently? Not really interested in the Chinese reproductions.

Word has it, they stopped surplusing & started refurbishing.... and that was about 20 years ago.

Sorry.

Every "original" ones i come across now are Rusty & Crusty.

And the Harbor Freight knock offs, work pretty well.

My understanding is klinton stopped the surplus sales of such things and instead had them crushed for scrap. But some still come up for sale but probably not by the pallet load as you're looking for.

That's one of the names I saw that popped up. I'm not really looking for another pallet load of them. I'm 65 yoa and more limited on space than I was before but if I can find a decent supplier, I would be interested in another 24 or so. I not only use them for ammo, but also to store hardware items and anything else that will fit that I need to keep dry and the cans are stackable which saves on space.
Bulk ammo is stored in my separate shop building in 20mm cans or the original wood or metal crates (surplus .308/.30-06). Ammo that comes in cardboard cases are broken down into the 20mm cans, Smaller transportable amounts of ammo for inside the house and for transport to the range are stored in the 50 cal cans. Reloaded test loads are stored in the appropriately labeled cans.

They had the nicest cans I have seen anywhere, ever.
The worst cans were from sportsmans guide
You need a big rubber mallet to close them.

I've purchased 2 good size lots from Sportsmans Guide in the last few months, last one just weeks ago... advertised as used... still with GI markings... All were in excellent shape, 30 cal and 50 cal sizes and a few of what they call the "fat 50" which is the SAW ammo box. At your door in 3 days.
