I'd say legit being the SN corresponds with the early Stgs being made in Belgium until Steyr tooled up but a Type 2 receiver?

Hmmmmm
Dicey...could be a dress up on a Belgium also.

Says gun has visible 'Star of David' in the magwell, signifying that the rifle may have seen time with the IDF.

I'd bet $1,000 that FN guns made it to the IDF, so that's not a problem. Is that true of actual Austrian StG-58s? Yes, I'm aware that early StG-58s were FN Herstal guns... but I've never seen one with a Type II upper receiver or that type of finish - though it could have been painted along the way.

Paco posted some STG thread recently, none of the ones he put in that thread markings match this one .. probably just an FN machine gun went to the IDF and got imported after that ..

The fonts of the upper and lower receiver don't match, bolt had been scrubbed and re-stamped. Even the orientation of the serial number on upper receiver, bolt carrier and bolt are each different. Factory StG would have serial number font and orientation the same for all 3 and the lower receiver.
Could be an StG58 kit built on an Israeli FN receiver that that had the Star of David removed and was re-stamped. Looking closely at the mag well recess in the upper shows evidence of metal removal.
These type 2 FN Israeli non-serialized receivers were available from Europe years ago, I was offered one for $100 but passed.

Definitely not an StG-58. Like someone said, it just has some StG furnishings.
Few reasons why not an StG:
1) StG-58 Serial number 1183 would have been made in 1958, before Type 2's were made.
2) StG-58 Serial number 1183 would have a vertical breakdown lever.
3) StG-58 Serial number 1183 would not have a S-R-A marked lower.

It would be nice to see the barrel profile and markings.

As for is it Factory? YES!!!!
StG-58? NO!!!!

I know There’s a time that Israel had hard time getting weapons from other countries , which can cause a political problems , some European and African countries were sneaking some weapons into ships and ship them secretly to Israel, and managed to get them there,, history is full of vague stories about that stuff , maybe this is one of these pieces ,, all it is is a Belgian type 2 MG, made it to Israel and got stamped there by Israel military, and somehow made it back to the US, probably when they decided to switch to American made weapons .. Being a dealer sample means it is a factory gun( most likely) , and someone here just added some STG furniture on it ..Pretty much if anyone knows what country used to stamp in that area next to the star which was scraped to remove it , then we’ll know what country had that weapon before sending it to Israel .. my thoughts..

No, the Israeli 50.00s are widely available on the market in Europe, they come up here for discussion all the time, this is just one of those with StG parts added. They all have the star of david stamp in the magwell cut. The Israeli 50.00s are black so this one has been stripped and parked.
