Cliffy109 had this suggestion: A 'stickied' thread of those who build, have tools to share and can loan, etc. Please add to this thread IF you are
- a professional gunsmith
- a hobby builder who can assist
- a holder of tools you'd be willing to loan
- an organizer/sponsor of a GTG to have a build party

merged: PLEASE CLEARLY IDENTIFY WHTHER YOU ARE A SMITH, HOBBYIST FOR HIRE, OR TOOL KEEPER SO TAHT OTHERS CAN CHOOSE WHICH SERVICE or SERVICE THEY WISH

Identify any special tools you have, and most especially, any you don't. State any limitations you might have. Also, there may be inferred issues w/ 'builders' re: ATF. Keep that in mind if you suddenly find yourself having a load of rifles show up at your home. Our intent is to provide Members a locus for info regarding people close to them who can help with a build.

Customers: please do NOT post "who's in Tejas (answer: nobody important  ) who can help?" questions. This is the 'supply chain' end of your question. Answers should be made by those who can provide the service.

As this grows I'll do a little Mod-work to keep it organized. Please be patient w/ me.

A start w/ professionals (omissions are because it's 0500 EST!)

- Gunplumber/Arizona
- Dan @ VOW/East Tennessee
- Tony Marshburn/Atlanta
- Brett Stafford/Atlanta
- George Gouger/Oregon

VOILA! We'll work on this together!

GUNSMITH
FFL# 9-82-005-01-6B-00348

Prices as of 3-07:

FAL builds start at $100 and up depending on configuration, receiver and compliance parts to be used. Contact me with your details for a more accurate quote.

Parkerizing FAL or similar rifles: $125
Insured return shipping for a complete FAL or similar rifle: $40

Cut FAL receiver for para top cover: $35

Cut, crown and thread barreled upper receivers: $65.
Insured return shipping for barreled uppers: $30.

Cut, crown and thread barrel without receiver: $35
Insured return shipping for barrels only: $26
The above prices cover cutting most SAE/US/Imperial threads on most firearms, installation/timing the flash hider and occasional minor modification of the flash hider being used. For instance, if a 5.56 AR type Vortex FH is used on a FAL it must have the bore opened up for the larger 7.62 projectile. This is one of the "no extra charge" minor modifications.

I can be reached by email at mrbonecrusher@cableone.net or between 10am and 8pm mountain time at 208-234-2057

I also do internet auction transfers here in Idaho for $10. Check with me for prices on new guns or optics.

I'm not a smith, but I do have the tools required to build and I'm glad to help anybody in the Northern VA area. I'm just doing this in my garage and I'm not an expert, but I have built a number of safe and well functioning rifles for myself and a few friends. I've also helped several guys correct timing problems and other minor issues. If you're a newbie and just want help in getting started, send me a PM or e-mail and I'll be glad to help.

I live in Woodbridge and my work schedule is a bit odd so you may have to be patient on timing. The only fees involved would be a 12 pack of Sierra Nevada.

Not a FFL but willing to help out with builds as oversight.

New York, southern portions. Know enough to be truly dangerous, probably built/helped on 15 or so builds. Have all the tooling and if I don't have the right tool, I have several BFHs, soon to be set up for blasting, parking and spray coating as well. Only stipulation is I get to keep part of the used receiver stub for my wall.

No FFL, no real "expertise", but I've built a few FALs and have all the barrelling and headspacing tools to do it. I've assisted fellow FALers in their build before, and would be happy to assist again.

I DON'T have many gage pins (I have a few laying around) or a stepped rod for "properly" determining the correct size locking shoulder. I've parked and refinished before, but don't have a blast cabinet on site so I can only "advise." I usually have silver solder, flux, and torches around, so I can help with that as well.

Hobbyist for hire!

I've built 4 functioning FALs and would be willing to help someone starting out. I've made two receiver wrenches, I have headspace tools, silver solder and MAPP gas. Typical garage building which includes beer, bedliner and bandaides of course! If someone in E. Washington near Walla Walla and needs help building a compliant rifle give me a call.

just the usual basement hobby shop, but getting better every time i turn around. special tools include a big honkin' farm vise, a big f'n hammer, a heavy duty die grinder (just right for facing your dsa receiver, marc), a copy of frank dunlap's "gunsmithing" (1950), a welder and silver soldering torch i keep right next to the fuel oil tank, a drill press and blast cabinet, the makings of a nice lathe, and a little bit of seat of the pants gunsmithing ingenuity.

i am up to my ass in my own projects, but would be willing to help any locals with their gunsmithing connundrums. i have had a hand in about 15 FAL, and am building ak's, of late. give us a ring if you're near york, pa.

If you live in the Wichita area I have everything it takes to get one together. I also have a parkerizing set up but no blaster. Built 4 and assisted on another and have more on the way. Got the scars to prove it!!

No Charge! I do it for the fun of it!

For Reference: Guys who own FAL tools, equipment, etc.

I've decided to start this thread to have a list of all of the FAL Files Members who have some basic FAL building or gunsmithing tools. That way the newbys don't have to start start a whole new thread just to ask "who has what tools in what area." Just PM me or post where you live and what tools you have. I'll list all the names here on the first post. I'll get the ball rolling.

Jamin "Jambo" Koehn - Tishomingo, OK (south central OK)
Tools: FAL Action wrench, barrel vise, buttstock tool, bolt-action action wrench.
