Wait wait wait... We have a forum now for the 1911 and the Glock but not one for the King of Nines? I always thought the High Power was the true companion pistol for the FAL.

I do like the new forums though.

Please don't! I love the Browning HP, but me thinks that the 1911 is the biggest piece of junk ever invented.

Who came up with the idea of a "grip safety" Bleghhhhh!

Hmmm.. Can it be lumped in with the 1911 (Yes, I know they're similar, but definitely different) or no?
Although I see the reasoning to have a seperate catagory, lumping for now is the better choice. Unless you make a Handgun Forum with sub catagories, then I would be pushing for a CZ section!

"Who came up with the idea of a "grip safety" Bleghhhhh!"

It was Mr. Browning's answer to the Army's requirement that the safety be "automatic" That is to say, that the pistol could be carried in a "safe condition" and still be ready for "instant action" Another part of the requirement was that the safety "self actuate", if the pistol was dropped. The first models of the pistol submitted for test had no thumb safety. During the Army's test and evaluation process the requirement for a positive lock type of safety was added. The safeties are, to my way of thinking, redundant and either one, alone, would be fine. Both operate by preventing the sear from moving out of the hammer notch. The only "advantage", that I can see to the 1911's thumb safety is that the slide is also prevented from cycling when it is engaged and I'm not sure how this is a benefit. The Hi Power only has a thumb safety and is just fine. It also has a magazine disconnecter that was added to please European sensibilities. Features are often added to a design "Just to make the customer happy." regardless of any real need for them.

As J.M. Browning was ever-improving his innovative designs, wouldn't it then follow that his model of 1935 (the HP) be an improvement, thus superior to the 1911?

I say it needs it's own forum. But that's one man's opinion :p

I agree, the HP is a pistol in a class of it's own, and deserves it's own forum. I don't care if you love Glocks, but hate 1911s, or if Sigs float yer boat over XDs, and if everyone hated H&K because they hate us, cause they think we suk, but I'll take my HP over any other 9mm out there. Don't care if they are German, Swiss, or Italian squirtguns, or Austrian, Croatian, or domestic plastic. In the end, the HP is king of the 9s.
